Diagnosis, Page 23

Chris Says: We wrote this comic weeks ago, well before the sad, sad news for metal that came out this weekend.  I don’t think there’s any better tribute we can offer to Ronnie James Dio than casting his music as so metal that it’s the last stage before you literally burst into flame.

Chad Says: (A moment of silence for Dio)

If that sentence finishes the way I think it might, the next page may just blow the doors off the roof of my mind.

This looks awesome, but the Caduceus really bothers me. It was the staff of the messenger god, (later) the one with the wings on his foot, hence the wings on the staff. It was used as a symbol for commerce.

The Rod of Asclepius on the other hand is a single wooden staff with a single snake, associated with astrology, healing and medicine. The staff of a mythological doctor. It’s humble when compared to the golden staff with two snakes and wings.

I guess the character would not be above using the more ornamented one because of the rule of cool, though. On the other hand, I think the Rod of Asclepius would make a cooler guitar.

@Random You must be fun at parties.

P.S. I love this comic, and I’ve sent a link to everyone I know. You guys are great.

I think Dio would see this comic as the purest representation of his music. Well done.

@Random – You just uncovered the first of many clues as to Dr Guitar Solo’s dark secret: He does it all for the money.

Look for him to become the evil hospital administrator in AH’s fourth story arc, “Prognosis: Unprofitable!”

@ Wolter – What are The Doors doing on your roof? I thought they were all dead.

This is an awesome homage to the greatest voice in metal ever. I even dropped a tear…

@Random: I concur, even if your explanation could’ve been a little less winded 😉

I love that the drum set says “bad medicine”. Now I’ve got Bon Jovi in my head.

Re. Random: The Caduceus is used as a symbol of medicine. As long as people use it, it works as a symbol. It doesn’t matter how that happened or how it used to be used.

After reading the Holy DIver Album reference, I had to listen to Rainbow in the Dark. After this Mob Rules reference I had to listen to that as well. Dio will be well missed.

Chad, make it an hour of silence. Then follow it with a 3 day non-stop Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, H&H and Dio concert.
